**Tagged Redfish Alert**
As of lunch time today, we have our SECOND CONFIRMED WINNER of the year!
Luis DeLeon, of Corpus Christi, is the lucky angler to take the honor of driving home with a brand new Ford F-150, 23’ Haynie Bigfoot, Mercury marine outboard, and Coastline trailer package. However, this isn’t his first experience with a STAR tagged redfish. This is a story for the ages.
‘Two’ Good to be True: The Story of Luis Deleon
As we start this story let’s take a quick detour back to July 1st, 2018. Do you remember what you were doing that day? Well, if you’re Luis DeLeon you will certainly remember the range of emotions you experienced that day. It started as a normal day of fishing in one of your favorite spots on the Upper Laguna Madre. You were feeling great as you head back to the truck to go home with your stringer full of limits of trout and reds. You’re cleaning the last redfish that you plan on giving to your dad for dinner, and then you see it. It’s what thousands of anglers up and down the coast search for tirelessly. Unfortunately, this is when your emotions switch because although you caught this tagged redfish fair and square, you weren’t entered. As is common with a lot of anglers, Luis had not seen the tag due to algae covering it.
Now, fast forward to nearly a year later to the day. You’re back in the same spot throwing your favorite lure, just enjoying the beautiful weather. Then it happens, you get a hit and it feels like a redfish. When you land the fish you can’t believe your own eyes, it’s tagged! Your persistence has finally paid off after getting entered after last year’s catch and fishing that spot every chance you got from then to now. As Mr. DeLeon told us, he “couldn’t even fill out the paper I was shaking so badly”, and “is still shaking.” Catching a tagged redfish is considered by many as a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence by many, but to catch two in the same spot, well that almost sounds too good to be true.
You can experience this same pure joy this summer! We still have three trucks, sixteen boats, three UTV’s and $325,000 in scholarships up for grabs this summer in a variety of categories. So get entered today and catch your fish of a lifetime!
With three Ford truck and Haynie boat combos and another five Haynie boats waiting to be claimed and over sixty remaining tagged redfish, chances to win are incredible still! Along with the redfish, there are still tons empty spots, and beatable fish on the leaderboard just waiting for you. So get registered, get out, and win yourself a new boat or your child a life changing size scholarship!
